Dear Students/Parents, it is our pleasure and honour to introduce, KURSK STATE MEDICAL UNIVERSITY,situated in the heart of KURSK CITY, about 450km down south of Moscow. It is a large industrial town and also a cultural and scientific centre. Founded in 1935, KSMU has rich experience in training Physicians / Doctors. KSMU is one of the best among 48 Russian Medical Universities. KSMU has been honoured with the prestigious best Rector Award and European Gold Award.

RECOGNITION

The Degree in P.G.M. (Physician in General Medicine) from Kursk State Medical University is fully recognised in Malaysia by the JPA & MMC(underthe Medical Act 1971) since August 2001. It is also globally recognised by GMC(UK), AMC (Australia) CPS (Canada), WHO, UNESCO, etc.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION

The University conducts its Medical Degree program fully in English. This has attracted students from Africa, Brazil, Burma, China, Middle East, Europe, India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and other parts of the world. Russian Language is only taught as a 2nd language for clinical pratice and public usage. Latin is also taught to better understand medical terminology.

CLIMATE

The weather is of four seasons with the average temperature of +20°C in summer and -8°C to -18°C in winter. Students arriving at Kursk in February are advised to bring along a pair of winter clothing and purchase the rest on arrival there.

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation is provided by the University. Rooms are twin and triple sharing with centralised heating. Basic amenities are provided. There is a common kitchen at every floor level fitted with electric stoves and heated water supply.

TELE-COMMUNICATION

There are Cyber Cafes within & nearby the Campus. Internet access is also available in the hostel rooms. Each hostel has a public telephone at the lobby. Students are advised to buy handphones here in Malaysia and the SIM cards at Kursk for cheaper call & SMS.

ENTRY OUALIFICATION

The Medical Degree Course is for six years and the current entry qualification for this Course is Principle B or CGPA 3.00 and above at STPM, A Levels, Matriculation, Canadian Pre-U or any equivalent for Biology, Chemistry & Physics or Maths. The minimum entry qualification could be varied at anytime by the Ministry of Higher Education or other relevant authorities, whose approval is essential to pursue Medical Courses overseas.

INTAKES

Forecast results are accepted to obtain conditional offer letters.

  1. February – Closing Date 31 December.
  2. September – Closing Date 31 July.

PERSONAL EXPENSES

Estimated living expense per month is in the region of RM800.00 to RM1,000.00. Initial expenses to purchase necessary items such as winter clothing, carpet, portable heater, cooking utensils etc. is estimated in the region of RM3,000.00*. Students are expected to carry cash, USD 1,300.00 while travelling.

FOOD

Food is not much problem for western food lovers. Those who wish to cook their own food, could do so as most of the fresh foods, including “Halal” food, are available at the wet market and the supermarkets nearby. Students are advised to carry along a small rice cooker and some of their favourite spices & ingredients.

BANKING

Students are advised to open an account with a local bank in Kursk, situated just outside the University, which also has a counter within the campus. Money from any part of the world can be transferred without any restriction. Alternatively students can open an account with local banks at home and carry along any ATM card with “PLUS” & “MEPS”. Maybank account preferred. Students are advised to keep about USD300.00 in their bank account for emergency purpose. The estimated current exchangerate for 1 USD is 28 Russian Roubles and RM1.00 is 9 Russian Roubles. Estimated ATM withdrawal charges is about RM12.00 or 100 Roubles per withdrawal.

Students who do not meet the minimum result requirements have an option of still progressing.
